This Privacy Policy explains how Bing Rank (“Bing Rank”, “we”, “us” or “our”) handles information when you visit bingrank.com (the “Site”) and use our free tools, including the Bing rank checker, bulk rank checker, SERP checker, index checker and keyword suggestions tool (together, the “Tools”). By using the Site you acknowledge the practices described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.
1. Who we are
Bing Rank is an independent online service that provides free search engine optimisation (SEO) tools focused on Microsoft Bing. We are the controller of the personal information described in this policy. We do not operate a public office; the quickest way to reach us about anything in this policy is by email at [email protected].
Bing Rank is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by Microsoft Corporation. “Bing” is a trademark of Microsoft Corporation.
2. Information we collect
Information you give us
When you use our contact form or email us, we collect your name, email address, the topic you choose and the content of your message, together with the date and time, your IP address and browser type (used to prevent spam and abuse).
Information you enter into the Tools
When you run a check, we receive the keywords, domain names and country or language settings you enter. We use them to retrieve the matching Bing search results and show you the report. Please do not enter personal information, such as names or email addresses, into the Tools.
Information collected automatically
- Usage and device data. Like most websites, our servers record technical information such as your IP address, browser and operating system, the pages you request, the referring page and the date and time of each request. Our hosting provider keeps these server logs for a limited period for security, troubleshooting and capacity planning.
- Fair-use protection. To keep the Tools free and available for everyone, we limit how many checks one visitor can run per hour and per day. For this we store a one-way, keyed hash of your IP address alongside each check. The hash lets us count checks but cannot be turned back into your IP address.
- Cookies and similar technologies. See “Cookies and similar technologies” below.
We do not ask for, and do not knowingly collect, sensitive information such as health data, financial account numbers or government identifiers.
3. How we use information
- to provide, operate and maintain the Site and the Tools, including retrieving search results for the checks you request;
- to answer your messages and requests;
- to protect the Site against spam, fraud, abuse and security threats, and to enforce our fair-use limits and Terms of Service;
- to understand how the Site is used and improve our content and Tools (using aggregated statistics);
- to show advertising that helps keep the Tools free, as described below;
- to comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests from public authorities.
We do not use your information to make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects on you, and we do not sell your personal information.
4. Legal bases for processing (EEA, UK and Switzerland)
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we rely on the following legal bases:
- Consent for non-essential cookies used for analytics and personalised advertising, where consent is required. You can withdraw consent at any time.
- Legitimate interests in operating a secure, reliable and free service, preventing abuse, enforcing fair-use limits and answering enquiries. We balance these interests against your rights and freedoms.
- Legal obligation where we must keep or disclose information to comply with the law.
5. Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your browser. We and our partners use the following:
- Essential cookies. Our own sign-in cookies are used only by site administrators and are not placed on ordinary visitors’ devices.
- Preferences stored in your browser. The Tools remember the country and search depth you last selected using your browser’s local storage. This information stays on your device and is not sent to us.
- Analytics cookies. Google Analytics sets cookies such as
_gaand_ga_*to distinguish visitors and measure how the Site is used. See “Analytics” below. - Advertising cookies. Google AdSense and its partners may set cookies such as
__gads,__gpiand__eoi, or use similar identifiers, to serve and measure ads. See “Advertising” below.
Where required by law, non-essential cookies are used only after you consent through the consent message shown on the Site. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the Tools will continue to work, although some preferences may not be remembered.
6. Advertising (Google AdSense)
We use Google AdSense to display ads on the Site. Ads help us keep every Tool free to use.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visit to this Site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google’s Ads Settings. Alternatively, you can opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalised advertising at www.aboutads.info/choices or, in Europe, www.youronlinechoices.eu.
- Other third-party vendors and ad networks approved by Google may also serve ads on the Site. You can learn more about how Google uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
If you opt out of personalised advertising, you will still see ads, but they will be based on general factors such as the content of the page rather than on your interests. Visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland are asked for consent before personalised ads are shown, and their choices can be changed at any time through the consent options on the Site.
7. Analytics (Google Analytics)
We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors find and use the Site, for example which pages are popular and which Tools are used most. Google Analytics collects information such as pages visited, time on site, approximate location (derived from your IP address), device and browser type, and referring websites. We use this information in aggregated form only.
Google processes this data as described in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services. You can prevent Google Analytics from collecting your data by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, by declining analytics cookies in our consent message where it is shown, or by blocking cookies in your browser.
8. How the Tools retrieve search results
To produce your report, our server sends the keyword and the country or language you selected to Microsoft Bing, or to a search data provider that retrieves Bing results on our behalf. These requests are made by our server, not by your browser, and do not include your IP address, name or any other information that identifies you.
To reduce the number of requests, search results for a keyword and market may be cached on our server for up to 1 day and reused for other visitors who check the same keyword.
9. How we share information
We share information only as described in this policy:
- Service providers that help us run the Site, such as our web hosting and email providers, Google (Analytics and AdSense) and search data providers. They may use the information only to provide their services to us or as described in their own privacy policies.
- Legal and safety reasons, when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to comply with the law, respond to valid legal process, protect the rights, property or safety of Bing Rank, our users or the public, or investigate abuse of the Site.
- Business transfers, if the Site is sold, merged or transferred, in which case information may be transferred to the new owner under this policy.
We do not sell personal information for money and we do not share your contact form messages with advertisers.
10. How long we keep information
- Contact form messages and emails: for as long as needed to handle your enquiry, and no longer than 24 months.
- Tool usage records (keyword, domain, settings, result and the hashed identifier described above): up to 12 months, for statistics and abuse prevention.
- Cached search results: up to 1 day.
- Server logs: for a limited period set by our hosting provider, after which they are deleted.
We may keep information longer where the law requires it or where it is needed to resolve disputes or enforce our terms.
11. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- access the personal information we hold about you and receive a copy of it;
- correct inaccurate information;
- delete your information;
- restrict or object to certain processing, including processing based on legitimate interests;
- receive your information in a portable format;
- withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing that took place before the withdrawal;
- lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
To exercise these rights, contact us at [email protected]. We may ask you to confirm your identity before acting on a request, and we will respond within the time required by applicable law. Because we store only a hash of the IP addresses of Tool users, we usually cannot link Tool usage records to a specific person.
Additional information for California and other US residents
In the last 12 months we have collected the following categories of personal information: identifiers (such as name, email address and IP address), internet or other electronic network activity (such as pages viewed and interactions with the Site) and approximate geolocation derived from IP addresses. We collect them from you directly, from your device, and from our analytics and advertising partners, for the purposes described in this policy.
We do not sell personal information for money. The use of advertising cookies by Google and its partners for personalised ads may be considered “sharing” for cross-context behavioural advertising under some US state laws. You can opt out by using Google’s Ads Settings, the opt-out choices offered through the Site’s consent options where they are shown, or by enabling a browser signal such as Global Privacy Control where supported by our advertising partners. You have the right to know, access, correct and delete your personal information and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights.
Our Site does not respond to “Do Not Track” browser signals, because there is no common industry standard for them.
12. Children’s privacy
The Site is intended for a general audience of adults interested in SEO and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA and the UK). If you believe a child has sent us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
13. Security
We protect information with measures appropriate to its sensitivity, including encrypted HTTPS connections, restricted access to administration areas, hashed identifiers for Tool usage and regular software updates. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
14. International data transfers
Our hosting provider, Google and other service providers may process information in countries other than the one you live in, including the United States. Where personal information from the EEA, the UK or Switzerland is transferred to a country without an adequacy decision, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses used by these providers.
15. Links to other websites
Reports from the Tools and articles on our blog contain links to third-party websites, including the sites that appear in Bing results. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of those websites, and we encourage you to read their privacy policies.
16. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example to reflect changes to the Site, our partners or the law. When we do, we will change the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. If the changes are significant, we will make reasonable efforts to highlight them on the Site.
17. Contact us
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or want to exercise your privacy rights, email [email protected] or use our contact form and choose “Privacy or data request”.
